Mission Statement

Mission

The Kingsley swim and dive program exists to provide its members a fun, kid friendly environment whereby kids from ages under-6 thru 18 can participate on a neighborhood swim and dive team program that achieves good balance between fun and competition. The program will provide good solid instruction and will be a positive environment where children can enjoy the benefits of a large, athletic team sport in a recreational way.

Objective

The swim and dive teams will achieve its mission by:

  • Providing good solid instruction on all major swim strokes and dives
  • Provide coaches that are very good role models – coaches that are kid friendly, enthusiastic, creative and excited to teach younger, less skilled children.
  • Provide assistant coaches (from the more experienced swimmers and divers) that will teach the less skilled, younger swimmers and divers technique.
  • Provide essential training to parents and swimmers and divers on the judging techniques to minimize DQs and maximize point totals for divers.
  • Provide organized, orderly practices that balance endurance, technique, fun and team unity.
  • Provide a method to deal with disorderly swimmers and dives that make practices difficult and unorderly. Warnings will be issued as required to parents, and swimmers may be dismissed from the team if behavior is a problem.
  • Provide practices where swimmers and divers are not idle (except during rest times and instruction). Coaches will provide multiple teaching lanes and exercises where participants can be kept busy.
  • Provide different practice schedules where swimmers can have different options and adapt to their parents schedule.
  • Provide a schedule that groups children by age groups to allow for maximum instruction and effectiveness.
  • Provide a training / development program where skilled junior swimmers will be called upon to train less skilled trainers. provide a social schedule whereby participants will foster and develop “team spirit” outside of normal pool practices. There will be periodic social activities during the season.
  • Provide an end-of-season banquet where awards are given and swimmers and divers are recognized for outstanding work and efforts.
  • Providing weekly award ceremonies that recognize swimmer and diver achievements – whether it be time improvements, new strokes, and new dives. We believe this to be an essential part of the team.
  • Demonstrating in meets throughout the season that overall team performance improves. Performance improvement can be measured in personal dive scores and dive complexity, personal times, stroke competence and swimmer endurance. provide special swim practices (for extra money to the parents) where parents of children that are unable to swim the length of the pool with minimal assistance can go to group lessons and teach their children how to swim.
  • Provide special dive practices (for extra money to the parents) where children need special assistance.
  • Establish an effective communication method whereby parent volunteers and coaches can communicate directly with participants over email. Communication regarding schedules and directions will be primary focus.
  • Provide a Web site where essential information can be stored and accessed by parents of swimmers.
  • Provide communication to club members about pool closings and practice schedules. The swim program assumes that each swimmer is capable of swimming the length of the pool with minimal assistance.
